Potential Difference Art Exhibition
Potential Difference Art Exhibition
2015
Potential Difference Exhibition - celebrating the achievements of female scientists.
Glass Lab’s Sarah Keer-Keer and Laura Reed are taking part in this exhibition with artist Hamer Dodds. These glass pieces show how the ratio of males to females in science starts off 50:50 at undergraduate level, but slowly as careers progress and mature, fewer females remain in science and the gender balance changes, become male dominated. The glass is exhibited in petri dishes and emulates agar culture.
Potential Difference aims to:
- generate an exhibition of female role models to inspire the next generation of scientists
- showcase leading-edge biomedical and biological research produced by University of Edinburgh scientists
- create an historical archive that captures a transect of international research spearheaded by female scientists
- provide an active learning resource that opens discourse on gender parity in Science and exposes some of common misconceptions that envelope female researchers
- promote interdisciplinary interaction between early career scientists and artists
